 Faux locs are temporary and non-committal hairstyle that imitates the look of dreadlocks. Created by braiding natural hair into a base and wrapping extensions around it. Ideal for those who want the dreadlock aesthetic without the permanent commitment.

Butterfly Locs are subtype of faux locs and a protective style. Distinguished by their curly, looping strands that create a soft, "undone" look resembling butterfly wings. Installed using the crochet method with wavy hair to achieve a loose, unraveled aesthetic.

Both styles use extensions instead of locking the wearer's natural hair.
